The WWEShop announced tonight that they will be launching a new shirt ahead of mania, “I Wasn’t There.” This is obviously an effort for them to bring unity among fans during this unprecedented times due the virus.

This might be one of the best marketing campaigns in a while, although I don’t know how ‘the biggest night of wrestling” is going to go because it is spilt up into a two night event and there will be no fans in attendance. This may be a good way to drive sales and others will think this is a cool idea as well. It definitely strikes me as a shirt that you would get at an amusement park saying if you ‘survived a ride’ or if you ate really hot wings at a restaurant (kind of corny). Personally I think they would be better off if they donated the proceeds to some disaster relief fund which would benefit everyone involved.

WWE fans seem to be undecided if they actually like the shirt or not some people are saying this is a “cold and disrespectful move to the fans” because they had spent money on tickets, hotel rooms, etc ahead of this major event. Other fans are suggesting that they donate the proceeds to charities in Tampa Bay affected by coronavirus.

This shirt should drive conversation which will ultimately lead to sales. It could be a good marketing campaign on their part, time will tell.

Don’t forget Wrestlemania is a two night event from April 4-5!
