Let’s get into WrestleMania 27…

Location – Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia

Date – April 3rd, 2011

Attendance – 71,617

  • Lumberjack Match, United States Championship – Sheamus (C) vs Daniel Bryan ends in a No-Contest and restarts as a Battle Royal

Headline – The pre-show match turned into a Battle Royal after the lumberjacks started to brawl and it got into the ring and it officially restarted as a Battle Royal which The Great Khali won after eliminating Sheamus.

  • Battle Royal Participants – The Great Khali defeats Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Tyler Reks, Curt Hawkins, Yoshi Tatsu, R-Truth, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Mark Henry, Primo, Zack Ryder, Chavo Guerrero, David Hart Smith, JTG, Trent Barreta, Tyson Kidd, Johnny Curtis, Chris Masters, Evan Bourne, William Regal, Ted DiBiase and Drew McIntyre

Rating (for both matches) – 1.5 out of 5

*No video available for either match*

  • World Heavyweight Championship – Edge (C) (with Christian) defeats Alberto Del Rio (with Brodus Clay and Ricardo Rodriguez)

Headline – Both men traded off some decent back and forth and Christian would battle with Brodus Clay on the outside for a bit and Edge would retain his title after hitting Del Rio with a spear and get the 3-count. After the match, Edge and Christian would destroy the classic car that Del Rio drove into the arena for his entrance. This would also be Edge’s final match for the company until his return in January 2020 due to a chronic neck injury.

Rating – 3 out of 5

  • Singles Match – Cody Rhodes defeats Rey Mysterio

Headline – Rhodes came out to the ring donning a protective mask after Mysterio “broke” Rhodes’ nose while performing a 619 to him a few weeks prior which led to this feud and match. Mysterio would rip the mask off Rhodes and then Rhodes would retaliate by removing Mysterio’s knee brace and blasted him in the face with it then hit the “Cross-Rhodes” on Mysterio for the win.

Rating – 2.7 out of 5

  • 8-Man Tag-Team Match – Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston and Santino Marella defeat “The Corre” (Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel)

Headline – This match didn’t even last 2-minutes and ended when Santino hit Slater with the “Cobra” and Big Show followed it up with the “WMD” and the pin for the 3-count for the win.

Rating – 1 out of 5

  • Singles Match – Randy Orton defeats CM Punk

Headline – This was an overall very solid match and ended with a nice spot when Orton hit Punk with an RKO after Punk spring-boarded off of the ropes and attempted a clothesline.

Rating – 3 out of 5

  • Singles Match (Stone Cold Steve Austin as Special Guest Referee) – Michael Cole (with Jack Swagger) defeats Jerry “The King” Lawler

Headline – Lawler originally won the match but then the anonymous RAW general manager chimed in and reversed the decision because Stone Cold was being “biased” as a referee and the result was Cole wins via DQ. After the match, Lawler attacked Cole and Stone Cold started hitting the Stunner on everyone and they celebrated for awhile.

Rating – 1 out of 5

  • No-Holds-Barred Match – The Undertaker defeats Triple H

Headline – This was the best match of the night. The Undertaker just ended Triple H’s best-friend’s (Shawn Michaels’) career, the year prior and now he beat “The Game”. The terrific match ended after Taker got HHH to tap-out via the Hell’s Gate submission hold and The Undertaker was now 19-0 at the event.

Rating – 4.3 out of 5

  • 6-Person Tag-Team Match – John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki defeat Dolph Ziggler, Michelle McCool and Layla

Headline – This was a breather in-between the 2 big matches.

Rating – 1 out of 5

  • WWE Championship – The Miz (with Alex Riley) defeats John Cena

Headline – The pair traded finishers and near-falls for awhile then the match was ruled a draw after a double count-out but The Rock (the host of WrestleMania 27) came out and restarted the match but then he entered the ring and planted Cena with the “Rock Bottom” in middle of the ring and Miz pinned Cena for the 1-2-3 and would retain his title.

Rating – 2 out of 5

WrestleMania 27 Rating – 2.9 out of 5

Summary – Overall, it was a lackluster WrestleMania but had a few bright spots mixed in, in the form of Undertaker vs Triple H, Randy Orton vs CM Punk and Edge vs Alberto Del Rio.
