What’s Going On With The Brooklyn Nets?

Written by Jeffrey Iafrate

The new look Brooklyn Nets, that most analysts had favored coming out of the east are struggling early to start the season with a 5-6 record. When Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving first teamed up in Brooklyn the world new nobody could stop them from scoring the basketball, but who says you can’t stop them from winning? This season is Steve Nash’s first try as an NBA coach so we got to give the team some slack, but there isn’t excuses for the teams two superstars who have both won championships before coming to Brooklyn. The Nets, who won their first two regular season games proceeded to lose six of the next nine games. Kevin Durant did have to quarantine for seven days due to COVID-19 exposure but with other teams dealing with COVID issues themselves, the Brooklyn Nets are running out of excuses. Steve Nash spoke on their defensive struggles as they’re 3rd in points scored per game but 22nd in points allowed this season.

Kyrie Irving notoriously said on a podcast that Kevin Durant is the only other superstar that he can confidently say can hit a clutch shot too, with all the missed shots down the stretch it makes the quote more cringeworthy. The irony is that Kyrie played with one of the best players to ever play the game in Lebron James who helped him win his only championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The full quote is below.

“One thing I’ve always been comfortable with is I felt like I was the best option on every team I’ve played for down the stretch. This is the first time in my career where I can look down and be like, ‘That motherf—– can make that shot too!”

The Brooklyn Nets have to figure out their identity. It’s very clear they can score the basketball but to win anything in this league you have to be able to guard somebody. The Brooklyn Nets are set to face the Denver Nuggets Tuesday night.
