We are throwing it back today folks! Sit back and watch the last championship for L’Anse Purple Hornets. The Hornets went on to win the 1966 state championship against Marquette Bishop Baraga.

How good were the Purple Hornets? 

Coach Bill “Sugar” Popp had an amazing array of talent, starting with 6-foot-6 center Gerry Gerard.

Gerard dominated the inside, scoring at will and controlling the backboards. His lightning quick release off a rebound led to numerous fastbreaks for teammates like Deane Kent, Roland Swartz and Bob Fredrikson.
