Although they played their first two series of the 2023 season on the road, the Detroit Tigers held their Opening Day game and ceremonies at Comerica Park Thursday afternoon.
And to help with this special occasion, legends from all four of the city’s teams have commemorated in a special ceremonial first pitch with Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera, who’ll be retiring after this season.
Those legends include former Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace, Detroit Lions Hall of Fame wide receiver ‘Megatron’ Calvin Johnson, and Red Wings Hall of Fame defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom. All four would throw their pitches to Tigers pitchers Eduardo Rodriguez, Matthew Boyd, Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal.
Very cool thing going on for Cabrera at the ballpark as he’ll likely join Lidstrom and Johnson into his respective Hall of Fame in the future.
Hopefully the Tigers can get in one last Opening Day win for Cabrera as Detroit is currently facing the Boston Red Sox in a three-game series.
