The NFL world was shocked at the news that Davante Adams has been traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for some pretty hefty draft capital. Many suspected that maintaining Adams must have been a requirement for Aaron Rodgers in his decision to stay, but the recent turn of events may suggest otherwise.
ESPN’s reporter Rob Demovski broke the details earlier today:
Per a source, the Packers we’re willing to pay Adams equally to what the Raiders are with this new deal but Adams preferred to play elsewhere.
Aaron Rodgers was aware of the developments with Adams as they unfolded in recent days.— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) March 17, 2022
One would think that that Adams would jump at the chance to continue playing with a player of Aaron Rodgers’ caliber. The fact that Green Bay offered him equal pay shows that playing with Rodgers may not have been at the top of Davante Adams’ list. In fact, playing with Carr was obviously higher. We will continue to watch and see if details of a disagreement come forward. Two players high up in the organization may have seen the direction of the team differently.
Aaron Rodgers clearly could have taken far less money and kept Adams. He chose not to. That’s who he is.— DaBearsBlog (@dabearsblog) March 17, 2022
