One of the top pitchers in the minor league system for the Cincinnati Reds, Vladimir Gutierrez, has been called up and will make his debut today vs the Chicago Cubs. While the Cubs have been hot, Gutierrez is as polished as a pitcher coming up as it gets. We’ve seen him in big league camp before, and he features a plus fastball with mind bending off-speed pitches.

Sure, he’s not Nick Lodolo or Hunter Greene, but Gutierrez has the tools to be a solid starting pitcher. He’s off the a fiery start in Triple-A Louisville, with a 2.65 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched.

While I look for Gutierrez to perform well today, I also expect Suarez to heat up against these Cubs pitchers. In 2019, against the Cubs, Suarez in .378 in 74 at bats, with 9 home-runs and 21 RBI’s. Against a divisional opponent, and with the Reds skidding offensively, of Suarez can have a solid series to build forward on the rest of the year, the Reds will be in a great position to do some damage moving forward. Featured, Suarez hits a go ahead home-run in the 9th against Chicago, to give the Reds the win at Wrigley.
