A shooting happened Monday night in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in Hubbell. The shooting occurred as a female walked around outside of a house with a gun and started to enter a house. One of the officers then opened fire.

Facebook users throughout the Upper Peninsula were very upset to hear about this shooting. Saying that it wasn’t justified bringing up that she was walking away from the officers and never pointed her gun at them. Also including that she was having a mental health breakdown.

But as she was walking into the house there were people inside. She could have possibly been going inside to shoot the people inside.

The video is graphic so we had to cut a part of it out due to guidelines. But you can still hear the shots.

In my opinion when officers know that there is someone in mental distress, a mental health professional/counselor should be called. These local professionals can help calm and de-escalate the situation. The officer made the correct move to open fire because as she entered the house she put the people inside at risk. Who knows if she was planning on shooting someone inside.

I just believe that if there was a mental health professional that they should have calmed her down.
