A Couple Can’t Understand Normal Thinking? In another blow for the world’s perception of Americans (and an addition to the ongoing coronapocalypse comedy gold tour), Wal-Mart has banned customers from wearing face masks with the Nazi swastika on them. According to a report by FOX News 5:

A couple who wore Nazi flag face coverings to a Walmart in Marshall, Minnesota have been told not to return.

Police say the couple has been issued trespass notices. Officials said they are banned from visiting any Walmart facility for at least a year.

A Twice-Told Tale. Incredibly, this isn’t the first time this has happened. You may recall a story from last May where a couple in California wore face masks with the muc-reviled Nazi symbol on it claiming they were protesting the Golden State’s lockdown rules. This time around, the store wasn’t messing around and law enforcement officers were promptly called to the Wal-Mart. According to the CNN report:

Police served the 59-year-old man and 64-year-old woman with trespass notices, warning them they would be arrested if they returned, the Star Tribune reported. The two left without incident and charges were not pursued.

According to a statement from a Wal-Mart spokesperson (as reported by CNN):

“What happened at our store in Marshall, MN is unacceptable,” Garcia said in a statement. “We strive to provide a safe and comfortable shopping environment for all our customers and will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment in any aspect of our business. We are asking everyone to wear face coverings when they enter our stores for their safety and the safety of others and it’s unfortunate that some individuals have taken this pandemic as an opportunity to create a distressing situation for customers and associates in our store.”

While this may seem like just another day at Wal-Mart, the incident was enough to garner national attention. CBS News covered the story, reporting:

In a video posted to Facebook, the man calmly pays for items — including toilet paper and a tub of cheese balls — while the woman responds to shoppers challenging her: “If you vote for Biden you’re gonna be living in Nazi Germany, that’s what it’s going to be like. Socialism is gonna happen here in America!” She gestured with both middle fingers and later blew an air kiss from behind her mask.

A Corrupted Symbol. As detailed in the Encyclopedia Britannica article “How the Symbolism of the Swastika Was Ruined,” the swastika was once a symbol associated with good:

From its earliest conception, the symbol is believed to have been positive and encouraging of life. The modern name for the icon, derived from the Sanskrit svastika, means “conducive to well-being.” It has been used by cultures around the world for myriad different purposes throughout history: as a symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism; as a stylized cross in Christianity; in ancient Asiatic culture as a pattern in art; in Greek currency; in Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture; and on Iron Age artifacts. While the symbol has a long history of having a positive connotation, it was forever corrupted by its use in one cultural context: Nazi Germany.

Going to Wal-Mart can be a wild experience, but with the coronapocalypse going strong, people need less stress in their lives, particularly from maskholes and people who feel the need to protest in a disruptive way. Should this be considered protected speech under the first amendment? Perhaps, but it definitely falls under the category of two people who can’t understand normal thinking being complete dipshits.
