Umpire Hit In Facemask In White Sox Walk-Off Win

Written by Tony Ghaul

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 2-1 in 10 innings on Saturday at Guaranteed Rate Field, and they did it with a unusual walk-off.

With the bases loaded, two outs and White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson at the plate, Tigers pitcher Jose Cisnero uncorked a pitch high and beyond catcher Eric Haase. The ball hit home-plate umpire Cory Blaser in the facemask and Yoán Moncada scored the game-winner.

Haase seemed unsure what to do and was caught between checking on Blaser and looking for the ball. Cisnero tried to get to the baseball, but Yoan Moncada was able to score from third to give Chicago the 2-1 win.

Blaser was attended to and helped off the field as Chicago celebrated the victory. He seemed alert as he left the field.
