During the second game of the annual crosstown series between the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night, an umpire was taken out of the game for a weird reason.
In the video, MLB umpire Nate Tomlinson was struck in the face between his mask with a piece of a bat from Angels outfielder Mike Trout.
Avoiding further serious injury, the piece of Trout’s bat would strike Tomlinson, cutting him just above his eyes and nose.
Tomlinson’s crew chief, Laz Diaz, would take over at home plate for the rest of the game.
The umpire is deemed to be okay, but let’s say this, he was very lucky that he suffered a cut above his nose and eyes. That situation and injury could’ve been a lot worse.
