Death, taxes, Jimmy G getting hurt are guarantees every year and it has happened again. San Francisco traded for Jimmy G in 2017 and he’s been the QB ever since. During his stint with San Francisco, he has missed 23 games due to injuries, and yet again he’s missing time with another injury. During last Sunday’s game, Jimmy G left the game at the start of the second half due to a calf injury with rookie QB Trey Lance finishing the game as the 49ers signal-caller.

Trey Lance was the 3rd overall pick in the 2021 draft after the 49ers traded 12th overall, a 3rd rounder, and 1st rounders in 2022, 2023 for the 3rd overall pick from Miami. Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch moved all-in with Trey Lance as their future QB and the future is here.

Lance is the starter for this Sunday’s game against the undefeated Cardinals who sit atop the NFC West. Lance has the ability to close the Jimmy G chapter in San Francisco for good if he comes out and makes plays for that offense.

Lance has a very nice deep ball and likes to scramble to compliment that. Lance reminds me a lot of former San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick with his cannon of an arm to go along his fearlessness as a runner. This is the type of playmaker that Shanahan has needed for his offense under center and if all things go well this Sunday he will have that for this year with possibly many more to come.

Trey Lance is still a very raw young player but the unreliability of Jimmy G just caught up with him causing him to possibly lose his job to the rookie QB. All eyes are on Lance this weekend and he has a big test trying to go drive for drive with Kyler Murray who is playing at an MVP level early.

Is the Jimmy G era is over? Or do you see Shanahan sticking with him for the rest of the season?
