Phillies Manager Rob Thomson on an appearance on the 94.1 WIP Morning Show said that Trea Turner will bat lead-off tonight.

Thomson said that he’s giving regular lead-off batter, Kyle Schwarber the night off. He said that Schwarber is being given a rest day.

Turner had been struggling in his first season with the Phillies, after signing an 11-year, $300 million deal as a free agent this past offseason.

Phillies fans gave the struggling Turner a standing ovation in his first at bat this past Friday night after a road trip in which his slump had reached an all-time low.

Turner responded during the three games over the weekend against the Royals, going 4 for 12 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIS.

In a symbol of gratitude, Turner showed his appreciation for the support by posting a message on billboards in the greater Philadelphia area following a series, with a message: “Thank You, Philly.”

Turner continued to hit during this Phillies doubleheader against the Nationals yesterday, going 3 for 7 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
