Tragedy Has Struck Georgia Bulldogs Football Team

Written by Tony Ghaul

A week that was full of celebrating another National Championship for the Georgia Bulldogs has turned into sorrow. News broke that members of the team were involved in a fatal car crash early Sunday morning near Athens.

Offensive Tackle Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy have been pronounced dead after injuries suffered in a car crash, according to police. Two other members of the football program also were injured and are in stable condition.

Willock, 20, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver LeCroy, 24, was transported by EMS to a local hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. A 21-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries and a 26-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries.

In a statement from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, at approximately 2:45 a.m. police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 900 block of Barnett Shoals Road. Initial investigation indicates that a 2021 Ford Expedition was traveling southbound in the outside lane of Barnett Shoals Road when the vehicle left the roadway, striking two power poles and several trees.

Willock was a three-star offensive line prospect out of Paramus Catholic in the New York City Suburb across the river in New Jersey. He played in every game for the Dawgs this year and started two.

Lecroy worked in the recruiting office, where she helped Georgia bring in the players that have helped lead the team to two national titles in a row.
