Top 5 NFL Betting Strategies

Betting on the NFL.

Betting on the NFL is something that many people enjoy. It is much loved by many avid bettors, however there are so many ways to bet, so many strategies, it can be really hard to know what is the best way to place a bet and which way will be most lucrative to you.

Some may think that certain betting types will bring you more success than others, and this can be true, but is not strictly a rule of thumb. There are strategies however, things that professional bettors use to get ahead in the gambling game and win those big bucks,

There are plenty of resources online that will help you on your betting journey, and there is much to consider when you look at those NFL betting lines. So, to get you started, here are some strategies to help you further your betting success!

#1 Manage your Bankroll.

If you are thinking about placing bets this season, it is recommended that you set a reasonable budget for doing so. Set up a bankroll simply for your gambling. You can either budget weekly, monthly, or for the whole season. It is important to do this to avoid using any more money than you can afford to lose.

Gambling stops being so fun when you accidentally put your rent money into the latest match. Oops!

As a rule of thumb, you should not use any more than around 2- 5% of your bankroll balance for each bet that you place. So, if you set a budget of $1000, you want to wager around $20 to $50 for each game played. Use 2% for the smaller events and up to 5% for the ‘safer events.

If you are budgeting for the whole season, it is worth saving a chunk of it to one side for the Super Bowl, as you know those prop bets will be tempting.

#2 Look beyond the trends.

Always look beyond the trends, although these patterns can provide you with valuable insight, a professional bettor always looks at context as well as numbers when they evaluate the charts. So, if you notice that a team scored 47 points in the previous week, it does not mean they have a potent offense, consider their opposition too.

Research and understand how the team scored the points they did, perhaps their opposition had a weak defense. Always consider the external influences and who their opposition is, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, before you start placing bets. It’s also a good idea to use a service like Doc’s Sports to make sure you are in the loop.

#3 Diversify your bets.

Diversifying your wagers can actually maximize your win rate. By this we mean, do not always use the same betting type, remember that you can bet moneyline, spread, totals and props and futures too.

Understanding when it is best to use each of these is a crucial factor in your betting success. It does take practice and knowledge to find the right combination. Yet it is good that the vast majority of book makers will let you settle for a -2.5 spread, which has lower payouts however, you have less risk.

#4 Be cautious of divisional matchups.

Be cautious with divisional, these matches are often closer than you may think. And it is a common misconception that the less favored team is going to lose. Normally, the teams that play against each other twice per season will know each other very well, and so even the lower-ranked teams have a solid chance of defeating their stronger opponents with plenty of research and strategy.

In some situations betting on the team with the best odds is still the way to go, however in divisional matches it is not all that uncommon that the underdogs can slate their competition if they just tweak their strategies the right way.

Thus, in these situations, it is always a good idea to do some research into the team’s historical data and find out how they usually match up when they play against each other.

#5 Go through injury reports.

Always go through the injury reports. As football is a team sport, any slight change can completely throw the game. So, before you place your bets, always check which players missed training sessions, if they can play in the next game, their position, and so on.

Injury reports released by teams can be a bit ambiguous sometimes, as they tend to not want to give away too much information. Luckily all you need to do is hunt through twitter pages, such as the official NFL page, and you can find detailed information regarding injured players.

Knowing who has been injured and what practices and training they have missed out on can give you a good idea on whether this team will be a good bet this time. If a strong player has been out for a while, it might be safe to hold off on them for a while.
