At this point, the entire world is aware of the controversy surrounding Jacksonville Jaguars head coach, Urban Meyer. After the Jaguars lost to the Bengals 24-21, Meyer stayed in Ohio and was spotted at his Pint House bar downing margaritas and getting a lap dance from a blonde female that was NOT his wife. Former NFL player, Tim Tebow, went on First Take and expressed his feelings on the scandal. Tebow famously played for Meyer at the University of Florida where he went on win the Heisman Trophy and two national championships. Tebow was cut from Meyer’s Jacksonville Jaguars before the start of the season.
Tebow called the entire situation disappointing, frustrating, and heartbreaking for Meyer’s wife and children. “My advice to him was to apologize. To admit it. To learn from it and to never ever repeat it. Coach shared with me that it was one of the hardest times of his life…I know this has weighed so heavy on his heart and he is hurting.”
Tebow also commented on the attitudes of players and knows he will have to win back the affection of some of his locker room, “I do think for some of the guys he will have to earn back their trust and respect and I think he really wants to do that…this is a very serious situation.”
Tebow believes that Meyer is serious about making amends with his family and with the team. He mentioned that he spoke with all three of Meyer’s children and stressed how disappointed they were with the entire scandal.
“Thats the thing about a reputation. It takes a lifetime to build and a moment to lose.”
Tebow repeatedly mentioned how close he is with Meyer’s family, in particular, his daughter. He has been in contact with them throughout this scandal. Meyer’s daughter released a statement on her father’s actions and seemingly gave him a pass. Click here to read her statement.
