Three attackers Liverpool could bring in to inject a spark

With the transfer window currently wide open, clubs are scrambling to put their squads together ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which gets underway on August 13th. The aim for most of the top clubs is to close the gap on last season’s comfortable champions Manchester City, and Liverpool are no different, having given a meek defence of the title they won the previous season.

Part of Liverpool’s woes last season stemmed from the poor form of their attackers, and although new addition Diogo Jota added something extra, there is still a feeling that Liverpool need another attacking option to really bolster their ranks ahead of the new campaign. It’s hard to know whether Jürgen Klopp will spring for another forward, but if he did, here are three potential options that could make a difference for the Anfield club.

Jarrod Bowen

There have been reports linking Liverpool with a move for West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen, and while he might not be the first person that springs to mind when you think of potential options up front, he’s the kind of player you could imagine Klopp getting the best out of. Liverpool need more energy up front to improve their odds in the bet exchange, and Bowen certainly brings plenty of vim and vigour.

The 24-year-old has shown some fine form at times for the Hammers since joining from Hull City in January 2020, but if he were to move to Liverpool, he’d need to show more consistency. A reported price tag of £35 million may well scare Liverpool off, but it’s fair to say that Bowen would add some zip to their attack, and some depth to the squad.

Pedro Neto

After bringing in Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer, Liverpool might have their eye on another Molineux star in the form of Pedro Neto. The Portuguese forward has impressed greatly at Wolves, and at 21 boasts plenty of potential. It may prove that Klopp and his coaches are looking for a young player to come in and grow into an important role at Anfield, and you could imagine Neto fitting the bill nicely.

He would likely command a high transfer fee, and new Wolves boss Bruno Lage will be keen to keep the club’s prized assets in place. However, Neto would surely be attracted by the prospect of moving to a club like Liverpool and playing for a manager like Klopp.

Kylian Mbappé

This one is slightly more far-fetched, but the rumours linking Kylian Mbappé with a move to Liverpool simply won’t go away. The French striker will still be licking his wounds after a poor showing at Euro 2020, in which he missed the penalty which saw France crash out to Switzerland in the last 16, and he may feel that a fresh start is in order.

There’s no doubt that Mbappé would flourish under Klopp’s guidance, but the massive fee required to acquire his signature may well prove to be the stumbling block for any potential advances from Liverpool. However, until Mbappé decides where his future lies, Liverpool fans will continue to dream.
