The #Panthers will exercise the fifth year option on Brian Burns rookie contract, per PFF’s Insider Ari Meirov.

HIGHLIGHT: Brian Burns swims into backfield for second sack

Burns has been a key part of the Carolina defense since being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Burns, 24, has proved that his fifth year option is worth picking up, even though it’s going to cost the team roughly $16M. Burns is a hard hitting, pass breaking player that has 133 career tackles, six forced fumbles, and eight pass deflections. He has started 35 out of 48 possible games in his three seasons in Carolina.

Recording 25 sacks, 55 quarterback hits, and 25 tackles for loss is quite the accomplishment for a 24 year old player. It’s no surprise that the Panthers exercised his fifth year option, as they will surely look to sign him to an extension within the next season or two.
