If you are ready for the NHL season, I’ve got good news for you. It just started. And my favorite team the Detroit Red Wings season starts this Friday and I can’t wait.
Detroit has been known as ‘HockeyTown’ but over the last few years that name hasn’t shown up. Detroit hasn’t been playing the best hockey but with a new year here, everyone is expecting different. In fact it’s been over 3,400 days since the Wings won a playoff series. Not much of a ‘hockey town’ if you’d ask me
And the NHL lines are here as well and although they might not be in favor of the Wings having a big season, fans can’t let that sink in. Anything can happen.
General manager Steve Yzerman made a big change firing coach Jeff Blashill. Yzerman then hired Tampa Bay assistant Derek Lalonde to replace him. Yzerman worked with Lalonde during his time in Tampa.
He also made sure to make a little splash in free agency, Yzerman signed center Andrew Copp, defenseman Ben Chiarot and wings David Perron and Dominik Kubalik.
Those four join Detroit’s young foundation that includes captain Dylan Larkin, wing Tyler Bertuzzi, wing Lucas Raymond, and 2022 Calder Trophy winner, defenseman Moritz Seider.
Could hockey town be back?
