The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale Recap

Written by mrbillylocks

Week after week, The Mandalorian continues to show that it’s becoming the best Star Wars content that’s been released. The season 2 finale episode proves just that.

Major spoilers ahead for Chapter 16: The Rescue

The episode starts off with immediate action. Mando and crew capture an Imperial Lambda shuttle carrying the clone engineer, Dr. Pershing. This ship was their pass to get on board Moff Gideon’s light cruiser.

However, Mando had already announced he was coming after Moff. Sneaking onto the light cruiser with the Lambda shuttle would not fool him. Bo Katan, Cara Dune, Fennec, Koska Reeves, and Mando find their way onto the ship, but Moff Gideon sees right through it. Knowing they would be coming for Grogu, he leaves the bridge and heads to Grogu’s holding cell.

The ladies fight their way through the bridge and Mando sneaks behind toward Grogu’s cell. Narrowly defeating a Dark Trooper and sending the rest into the void of space, he finds his way to the cell. Standing there is Moff Gideon with the Darksaber hovering over Grogu’s head.

Mando pleads with Moff saying he’s not there for the saber, just the child. Moff tells Mando he already has what he needs from Grogu, so he allows him to take him away. As Mando is leaning down to pick him up, Moff shows his bluff and smacks Mando’s beskar armor with the Darksaber. A BADASS fight sequence commences between Mando’s beskar staff and Moff’s Darksaber.

Mando is able to defeat Moff Gideon, disarming him of the Darksaber. He shackles up Moff and takes him to the cockpit where Bo Katan and the rest are waiting. Mando offers the Darksaber to Bo Katan, whose mission was to be in possession of it in order to be the rightful ruler of Mandalore. Unfortunately, the saber must be won in battle to earn the right of it. Therefore, Mando would be the rightful ruler since he defeated Moff in battle.

As it started to look like Bo Katan may entice a battle with Mando, the Dark Troopers return. The crew bunkers up to take them on, looking like they would stand no chance. As the Dark Troopers bang on the door and almost crack through, they suddenly stop.

The radar blips that there’s a life form approaching. Through the front window of the light cruiser, a single X-wing flies toward them. The X-wing lands in the cruiser and none other than a dark robed, green lightsaber wielding Jedi comes out of it and goes on an all out Dark Trooper killing spree. Reflections of Darth Vader’s iconic scene at the end of Rogue One.

The Jedi fights his way to the cockpit and Mando opens the doors. The hooded figure shows his face to reveal he’s none other than THE Luke Skywalker!

Luke and our favorite droid, R2-D2, were there answering Grogu’s call to train him to become a Jedi. After an emotional goodbye between Grogu and a helmet-less Mando, Grogu leaves the cruiser with Luke.

This episode and season was nothing short of amazing. If you would’ve told Star Wars fans two months ago that we would see Boba Fett, Ashoka Tano, Bo Katan, Koska Reeves, AND Luke Skywalker this season, they wouldn’t believe you for a second. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni did a phenomenal job with this season and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next.
