This year’s NHL Playoff season is now featuring the heated ‘Battle of Alberta’ rivalry, and tonight, we got our first major fight in Game 3 in this Western Conference Semifinals Series.
Down 4-0 to rival Edmonton Oilers in the third period, Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic collided with Edmonton goalie Mike Smith, which would cause a big skirmish between the two bitter rivals.
You can see in the clip below that Lucic was trying to slow himself up to try to get the puck, but tripped up Smith instead. And then, all hell would break loose.
As the Oilers go on to win 4-1, Lucic would eventually be ejected from the game and was given a five-minute major penalty for the hit.
For hockey fans, hopefully we’ll see more of these skirmishes within these playoffs. Just need the Battle of Florida series (Tampa Bay Lightning-Florida Panthers) to be as good and it will be the most entertaining playoff semifinals the NHL hasn’t seen in a while.
