Texas Rangers left fielder Josh Smith took a pitch to the face in the third inning of Monday night’s series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.

Smith was struck on the right side of his face in the third inning by a 1-0 slider from reliever Danny Coulombo.

Smith immediately fell to the ground in a scary scene and was attended to by Rangers medical staff. He walked off the field under his own power and was replaced by Ezequiel Duran.

Smith was taken to a local hospital for further testing on his face and jaw, according to the Rangers public relations department.

Coulombo was pitching because Orioles starter Kyle Bradish left after being hit on his right foot by a line drive in the second inning. Baltimore announced Bradish has a bruised foot.

Rangers catcher Jonah Heim lined a 2-2 changeup back to the mound and the ball struck Bradish on the outside of the foot as he was completing his follow-through.
