Law Roach, a world-renowned celebrity and athlete fashion stylist, abruptly retired on Tuesday, March 14. The 44-year-old Chicago native shocked the entertainment and fashion industry with his Instagram post, with a huge screenshot of the word “RETIRED” along with a cryptic message that leaves fans more questions than answers about his sudden announcement.
The 2016 judge for cycle 23 of America’s Top Model posted the shocking message on Instagram, “My Cup is empty….. thank you to everyone who’ve supported me and my career over the years. Every person that trusted me with their image, I’m so grateful for you all,” he continued. “If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not! The politics, the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win … I’m out.”
The famed now ex-stylist was famous for working with celebrities like Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, Celine Dion, Kerry Washington, Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish, Ariana Grande, and Mary J. Blige. Roach also worked with athletes like Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka. Zendaya and Roach partnered for over 10 years. Most of Zendaya’s iconic looks in the popular HBO American Drama series Euphoria were styled by Roach. Both Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy’s fashion styles are considered one of the most popular among today’s generation and it’s been a hit on social media platforms.
Some celebrities he has worked with expressed shock and disappointment about his departure from the industry. Roach described himself as an “Image Architect” and was an MVP of both New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala. There is no further word about the true nature of Law Roach’s sudden retirement but being surrounded by powerful people and fierce competition probably took its toll on the superstar stylist. Perhaps this is just a much-needed break to tackle things going on in his life. Whatever it is, we hope that he is at peace with his decision to step away from the industry.
