Special Teams Screw-Ups: Green Bay Lined up With 10 Men on Field Before Game-Winning Field Goal by Robbie Gould

Written by Nate

In Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Round game during the 2022 NFL playoffs, special teams mishaps were the story for the Green Bay Packers as they lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 13-10. However, one key blunder came on the game-winning field by 49ers’ Robbie Gould.

Via a photo tweet by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Packers appeared to line up on the field goal with only ten men on the field.

And that occurred after San Francisco called a timeout just to set the attempt up.

The visual above is part of what was a miserable night for Green Bay’s special teams unit altogether. Between two blocked kicks (including one of them that went for the 49ers’ lone touchdown) and that play though he took the blame for the screw-up, someone on Matt LaFleur’s staff is going to be fired on Monday.

Even after clinching the league’s best record and having the majority of their starters back just in time for another run at a Super Bowl, Green Bay still comes up short in key games and moments.

Kudos to San Francisco for the upset over the Packers, but maybe this game can get LaFleur to shore up their special teams now.
