I woke up this morning very excited to see Mr. Ohtani take the mound today for the first time in 2 years. In 2018, he was the first dude since Babe Ruth to pitch 50 innings and hit 15 home runs. If you can’t get excited about a player like that then I don’t know how to help you out. 2-way players are just so cool and it’s been too long since we’ve had one. Over the last two years he had at least a .285 BA and averaged 20 homers so he’s no chump at the plate. Plus his stuff is flat out filthy too, at least usually. But, his pitching today was straight dreadful:

Shohei ended up giving 5 ER on 3 hits, 3 walks, and failing to get anyone out. It was a complete shit show, and I honestly felt bad lmao. Definitely not the start to the season he was looking to have, especially after going 1-5 yesterday and being getting thrown out on Friday as the first baserunner of MLB’s inaugural extra-inning rule:

I still have high hopes for him, hey it’s only Game 3 and it’s going to be a weird season. I’m sure his bat will be fine and it was the dude’s first time pitching after surgery and since 2018 so I’ll give him a break. Most pitchers will not only struggle at the start of the season, but especially when’s it hot out which gives the baseball extra juice and the fact that there was such a short Spring/Summer Training Camp. Weird thing was that there were no fans which should’ve helped his nerves. Either way I’m sure Angels fans are a little worried and as a Yanks fan I’m happy he chose them over us so we didn’t have to shell out the cash to witness this debacle on opening weekend. If you want to get at me about Paxton’s performance yesterday I got that saved for another blog, bet.
