Rockies All-Star Linked to Phillies in Potential Blockbuster Trade

Written by Tony Ghaul

The Philadelphia Phillies have struggled offensively in 2023. Injuries to multiple starters have not helped matters, either.

Reinforcements could be on the way to address both issues at the trade deadline. Philadelphia could be targeting Colorado Rockies All-Star first baseman C.J. Cron.

Phillies starter Rhys Hoskins tore his ACL in March, ending his season. Darick Hall is still undergoing rehabilitation in the minor leagues after a thumb injury.

In their places, both Alec Bohm and Edmundo Sosa have played out of position for Philadelphia. The offense has reflected that undesirable situation.

The Phillies are hitting well below the league average with runners in scoring position. Fans have understandably soured on the Phillies due to that poor production and there are other indications that Philadelphia needs to make a move.

For instance, DraftKings Sportsbook now has both the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets as more likely to win the NL East division than Philadelphia. Barring a significant player transaction, it’s difficult to see why fans and oddsmakers would have any optimism about the rest of the season.

A trade for Cron would represent the lineup transformational move that could turn the season and fan sentiment around.
