Adding on to a growing list of free agents they signed earlier this month, the Detroit Lions are bringing back a fan favorite in wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr.
After spending the previous two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones has signed a one-year $3 million deal with hitch could add up to 5 million in incentives, per reports from NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo and Pride of Detroit.
Jones, who had played four seasons in Detroit (2016-20), is heading back to the Lions as a key piece on offense and replacement to the departing receiver in DJ Chark. He is also the third prior Lion to be returning to Detroit in this free agency period (guard Graham Glasgow and special teams player/linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin).
Prior to leaving for Jacksonville, Jones recorded 289 catches for 4,296 yards and 36 touchdowns in Detroit.
The former California Bear will be joining the likes of Amon-Ra St Brown, Jameson Williams, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, and running backs D’Andre Swift/David Montgomery on a offense that is projected to put up big numbers in 2023.
