The year of 2021 has not been great for professional athletes. It seems like more athletes have passed away in 2021 than ever before in previous years. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the NFL, NHL, MLB or NBA, it seems like a couple times a week if not more there is a notice of an athlete passing away.
While we are usually on top of these things, this last one somehow slipped through the cracks. It was announced back in late April that Courtney Hall, the Chargers’ second-round pick in the 1989 NFL Draft and the starting center for the team’s lone Super Bowl appearance, died at the age of 52.
Im other Los Angeles Chargers news, former quarterback Philip Rivers has won the Pro Football Writers of America’s Good Guy Award for his cooperation with reporters.
The Good Guy Award is awarded to an NFL player who goes above and beyond in helping pro football writers do their jobs. The award has been awarded every year by the PFWA since 2005.
