Reports: Pilot Pronounced Dead After Crash in Carp Lake Township

A small aircraft pilot has been pronounced dead at the scene of a crash in an inaccessible area at Carp Lake Township in Ontonagon County, as first reported by WLUC-TV6.

The pilot, who’s name has not been released to the public, was the lone occupant on the aircraft.

The pilot and aircraft departed from the Gogebic County Airport, but officials said that they did not arrive at the Ontonagon Airport as scheduled.

As investigators conducted an air-and-ground search, both the aircraft and pilot were recovered by the ground search personnel in the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were notified and will conduct an investigation.

Assisting the Ontonagon and Gogebic County Sheriff’s Departments were the Civil Air Patrol, United States Forest Service Law Enforcement, Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, Rockland Township Fire Department and Porcupine Mountains State Park Rangers.
