The Portland, ME Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event has 16 of the top 35 bull riders competing in it was an action-packed night. It delivered the toughest sport on dirt and twelve riders got a ride.

The victory of round one of the two-night event went to Ramon De Lima who has been plagued by injuries most of the 2019 season. Ramon took the lead with an 88 point ride on Cut The Cord and put up possibly his best ride so far this season. He will be a contender for the championship buckle of the event if he can continue to put together rides like the one tonight.

Eleven other riders were able to get on the board along with Ramon in round one of Portland. The scores from round one ranged from 88 down to 81.5 points. It appears the riders showed up to do their job and attempt to gather as many of the precious points available here in Portland as they can before the World Finals (November 6th-10th) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Of the top four in the World Jose Vitor Leme, Jess Lockwood, Chase Outlaw and Joao Ricardo Viera only Jose and Chase were able to get a ride tonight in round one. Jose was the last to ride and he appears calm and collected and does not seem to let his competitors who get a score before he rides seem to faze him at all. He got a score of 85.50 no world points as he finished fourth in the round and Chase Outlaw was able to gain ten world points tonight. Chase looked comfortable and appears to be laser-focused on making a run at the world title.

Joao and Jess could still come back strong tomorrow night and walk away with some points as they could still play spoilers and come back to the championship round and take some points away if their rides score enough tomorrow night. Anything can happen as Chase has won an elite series event on just two bulls a scenario that could happen tomorrow. A slim chance and it would require a perfect storm but it has happened before so Joao and Jess could still pull off an upset in Portland.

Chase Outlaw does look laser-focused on obtaining the gold buckle in Las Vegas this November. If he remains as focused tomorrow night and he will be bringing his A-game, so it should make for another can’t miss event tomorrow night. Crunch time is here and this event still has rather big-time implications on the world champion race as every point will become more important as the World Finals become closer.
