The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a quarterback for the first time in just under 20 years. After Ben Roethlisberger retired this past season, he left a gaping hole at the quarterback position. While the Steelers did just sign Mitchell Trubisky last week, it’s not certain that he is the long term solution.
Earlier today, Liberty University quarterback Malik Willis, who is expected to be a first round draft pick, held a “pro day” in Lynchburg, VA. While members of each of the 32 NFL teams were present, Mike Tomlin personally showed up to see Willis perform.
According to an ESPN article, Willis performed exceedingly well. The article states “Willis was particularly impressive Tuesday with an improvised strike that traveled 65 yards in the air, with no time for the 22-year-old to set before launching the bomb.”
After the event, Willis mentioned that he actually had dinner with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin the night before his pro day.
“”I’m like, ‘Mike Tomlin’s eating chicken wings?'” Willis said in amazement after a session that included 70 scripted throws. “That’s what you want. I mean, he’s a normal dude.”
