The Philadelphia Phillies acquired shortstop Edmundo Sosa via trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in late July. He became a key player in the Phillies phenomenal run last season.

Sosa wasn’t a full-time player, but provided a spark each time he stepped on the field. He installed an energy each time that he played.

Sosa has been impressive in the early goings of Spring Training as he vies for a larger role with the team for the upcoming season. He already has two home runs this spring, after hitting two all last season.

With the free agent signing of shortstop Trea Turner, there will be less opportunities at that position. The Phillies are looking for ways to get him on the field.

Sosa made his debut in center field on Saturday. Despite having Brandon Marsh in center field, they need someone to spell him.

Having the ability to play both the infield and the outfield is beneficial to Sosa and the team.
