The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 4-1 in Game 1 of a best-of-three National League wild-card series last night.
Phillies ace Zack Wheeler gave up five hits and one run with eight strikeouts and no walks in 6 2/3 innings pitched.
The Phillies offensive attack was led by Trea Turner who had two hits and two stolen bases on the night. Alec Bohm had an RBI double, Bryson Stott and Cristian Pache each added an RBI single.
Nick Castellanos also had two hits and an RBI. His double in the bottom of the eighth scored a hustling Bryce Harper, which put the Phillies up 4-1.
Jose Alvarado and Jeff Hoffman were strong in relief. Craig Kimbrel threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.
Game Two is set for tonight with another 8:08pm first pitch on ESPN. The Phillies send Aaron Nola to the mound to face Braxton Garrett of the Marlins.
