Three weeks after Phillies camp opened for pitchers and catchers, relief pitcher Gregory Soto reported to Clearwater.

Due to issues with his visa, Soto had been stuck in Dominican Republic, his home country, and was unable to join his new team for spring training.

Soto was acquired this offseason via a trade with the Detroit Tigers for Nick Maton, Matt Vierling and Donny Sands.

The two-time All-Star spent his first four seasons in the majors with the Tigers and became an All-Star selection in 2021 and 2022.

Last season, Soto recorded career-best marks in saves (30), ERA (.328) and games pitched (64), but also finished with a 2-11 record. His 98.7 mph fastball average led all major-league lefties last season.

Soto is likely to enter the season in a closer committee with Seranthony Dominguez, Craig Kimbrel and Jose Alvarado.
