According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Philadelphia Phillies are a “strong candidate” to sign free agent Josh Hader.
Hader is considered the top closer in this year’s free-agent class. The Phillies and Texas Rangers are considered to be the favorites to sign him.
The Phillies want to upgrade the closer position on the team. Craig Kimbrel served the role in 2023. He struggled down the stretch in September and in the playoffs, especially in the NLCS.
The 29 year-old Hader is a five-time All-Star. He had a great season in 2023 with the San Diego Padres. Hader recorded 33 saves with a 1.28 ERA.
This would be a huge addition for the Phillies. Pitching is definitely the top area that they need to upgrade.
