The Philadelphia Phillies have called up hard-throwing relief pitcher Orion Kerkering. The 22-year-old right-hander won the the Phillies’ 2023 Paul Owens Award recipient as their top minor-league pitcher.
Kerkering was a fifth-round pick in 2022 out of the University of South Florida. Kerkering began the Class A Clearwater and earning promotions to High A Jersey Shore, Double A Reading and, on Monday, Triple A Lehigh Valley.
For the season, Kerkering has a 1.51 ERA in 49 appearances with 79 strikeouts and 12 walks through four levels of minor league baseball. Kerkering fastball has been clocked in triple digits.
