The Phillies have acquired right-hander Erich Uelmen from the Cubs in exchange for cash.
Uelmen, 26, made his big league debut with the Cubs in 2022, pitching to a 4.67 ERA with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks in 27 innings. He largely uses a four-seam fastball, a sinker, and a slider. Uelmen’s fastball averaged 93.7 miles per hour last season.
Uelmen will be battling for a 40-man roster spot in the bullpen with familiar faces like Sam Coonrod, Nick Nelson, and maybe Christopher Sanchez, along with prospects Andrew Baker and Francisco Morales.
