The year 2021 has been extremely difficult on professional athletes, as it seems like this year more than ever there have been athletes dying left and right. Whether it be the MLB, NFL, NBA or NHL, it seems every couple of days either a present or past athlete has died.

Unfortunately, the latest news in deceased players comes from the Philadelphia Eagles organization. It was announced today that three time former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowler and defensive tackle Charlie Johnson has passed away.

He played in Super Bowl XV for the Philadelphia Eagles and was selected to three Pro Bowls. Johnson’s three interceptions in 1980 were remarkable because he was typically replaced by teammate Ken Clarke on passing downs. Johnson also played college football at the University of Colorado.

In other Philadelphia Eagles news, former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb had the following to say about current Eagles quarterback, Jalen Hurts.

“I think Jalen Hurts with experience and being in a starting row and continue to build around him, will have some success, he’s a winner,” McNabb said. “No matter how you look at it we can talk about his style of play, we can talk about whatever. Nobody knew what Russell Wilson was bringing to the game, nobody knew what Lamar Jacksonwas bringing to the game, not that he’s on their level. But you have to be patient with your young quarterback. But your young quarterback, who came in and showed a spark, the team rallied around him, and he’s such a big leader that people follow him. And so when you look at just this overall team, this team is not ready, but luckily they’re in the NFC East where a lot of teams aren’t ready.
