Padres anger baseball gods disrespecting Phillie Phanatic on mural

Before the first pitch of Game 1 of the NLCS Game 1 between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres began Tuesday, already some controversy was brewing.

“Don’t anger the baseball Gods. Paint this over before first pitch,” said one Padres fan. Artists Paul Jimenez and Signe Ditona got the idea for it Monday morning and finished it just five hours later.

One fan went so far as to say, “if San Diego loses the series, this is why.”

The artists say they’re die-hard Padres fan and did not intend to tempt fate, but it seems it might be too late for that.

The Phillies lead by home runs from Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, and stellar pitching from Zack Wheeler, defeated the Padres 2-0 in Game 1 of the NLCS.
