The Green Bay Packers have signed their new starting quarterback Jordan Love to a one-year extension rather than picking up his fifth-year option, as per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The contract has a maximum value of $22.5M, and includes $13.5M fully guaranteed. Had the Packers elected to pick up Love’s option, he would have been tied to a fully-guaranteed salary of $20.27M next season.

Love has just one career start, a 13-7 loss at Kansas City in the 2021 season, and played meaningful snaps in only one game last season, in the Packers late November loss at Philadelphia.

Love has thrown for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in limited action playing behind Rodgers since being drafted.

The 24 year-old Love enters his first as the team’s starter after the Packers traded long-time QB Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
