Notre Dame Lays A Beatdown On Overmatched Tennessee State

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish blew out an overmatched Tennessee State team 56-3 in their opener.

Notre Dame pummeled Tennessee State in the first half of the game, building a 35-3 halftime lead. The Fighting Irish outgained Tennessee State 345-79 in the game’s first 30 minutes.

Notre Dame was led by QB Sam Hartman, 14 of 17 passes for 194 yards and two TD passes in the first half. He also had a rushing touchdown. Hartman did not play in the second half, due to the huge lead that the Fighting Irish built.

Audric Estime led the Notre Dame rushing attack with 116 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. Freshman RB Jeremiyah Love had 46 yards on 5 carries, which included a 36 yard scamper to the end zone for his first career touchdown.

Jayden Thomas and Mitchell Evans each had 4 catches to lead the Irish in receiving. Gi’Bran Payne, Jadarian Price and Chris Tyree all caught touchdown passes for Notre Dame.

Steve Angeli started the second half at QB for Notre Dame. He completed 8 of 11 passes for 130 yards and two touchdown tosses.

Freshman QB Kenny Minchey made his debut for the Fighting Irish late in the fourth quarter. He completed both of his pass attempts for 12 yards.

Notre Dame faces N.C. State on the road next week at 12 PM, as they attempt to start the 2023 season with three straight wins.
