We have some exciting news to share for both football fans and Yoopers alike!
After hours of waiting back at home in the Upper Peninsula to see which team will give him the call, Northern Michigan University offensive tackle and Upper Peninsula native Jake Witt has been drafted in the seventh round at pick #236 to the Indianapolis Colts.
Via NMU’s official press release, the Bruce Crossing native becomes the first Wildcat football player to be taken in the NFL Draft since Mark Maddox in 1991.
Along with him mentioning the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions in a prior interview, Witt met with 29 other teams in the league, including a private session with the Colts. He started 22 games at NMU, including nine at tight end before transitioning to the offensive line.
On behalf of all Yoopers and us at PSE, we wish Jake the best of luck in his NFL career down in Indianapolis.
