The Philadelphia Phillies began a big four game series against the Atlanta Braves last night. This is a key series for both teams.
The Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead and things did not look bright for the Phillies. Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, with two men on, Brandon Marsh belted a three-run homer to put the Phillies within a run.
In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and Trea Turner on third base, Nick Castellanos blasted a two-run home run over the center field wall to put the Phillies up 5-4.
Castellanos has been the Phillies best hitter over this past month. He has been delivering big hits and providing home run power.
Castellanos has been a whipping boy for the Phillies fans over his three years in Philadelphia. Fans had been frustrated over his free-swinging ways.
Some of it was justified. Watching Castellanos swing at low and away pitches was maddening, but he has been carrying the struggling Phillies lineup.
Castellanos has been providing much needed power too, as top sluggers, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper have been in a bit of a homer drought over the month of August.
Big win for the Phillies last night. Three more against Atlanta and then they begin September with their sights on playoff baseball.
