On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Colts made the deal to send Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders, which finally gave Washington the quarterback they needed.
With that trade though, it leaves the Colts in need of a quarterback themselves, and they apparently are targeting Jimmy Garoppolo.
The San Francisco 49ers have been expected to trade Garoppolo because they drafted Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft with the third overall pick.
Garoppolo nearly lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl this past year; winning playoff games against the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers before losing the NFC Championship Game to the Los Angeles Rams, who won Super Bowl 56.
Garoppolo spent his first three seasons as the backup to Tom Brady with the New England Patriots before getting traded in 2017 to the 49ers.
With the Philadelphia Eagles having the Colts first round pick from the Wentz trade from a year ago, the Colts getting a quarterback in the draft, at least in the first round, seems unlikely.
Indianapolis could get a quarterback later on in the draft, but making a trade for a veteran like Garoppolo seems like the way to for Indianapolis. The Colts aren’t the only team linked to him, as the Pittsburgh Steelers have been rumored with possible interest as well.
