NFL Rumors: Carolina Panthers aggressively pursuing a trade for Deshaun Watson

Written by Doug Rush

With the legal issues cleared up for Deshaun Watson, teams have began to aggressively pursue him in a trade with the Houston Texans.

One of those teams who has been the most aggressive is the Carolina Panthers, who are in desperate need of a quarterback.

With the Panthers acquiring Sam Darnold a year ago and it not working out, the former number three overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft would likely be in the trade to Houston. The Panthers sixth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft would also likely be dealt as well.

Carolina brought back former league MVP Cam Newton, who sparked some buzz in his return, but he’s unlikely to return to the team in 2022.

With the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers unlikely to pursue a trade for Watson, it seems like the Panthers are the front runners to make the trade to land Watson.

Watson of course, has to waive his no-trade clause to approve any deal, much less to Carolina. But given their need for him, it sounds like a win-win situation for Watson and the Panthers.
