New Orleans Saints are hiring Dennis Allen as their next head coach

When Sean Payton retired as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, he personally endorsed his defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, to be the next head coach.

On Monday, the Saints have informed Allen that they are hiring him as their next head coach.

Allen has been on the Saints staff since 2015 as their defensive coordinator., which was his second stint with the team. Allen initially joined the Saints when Payton had initially joined in New Orleans in 2006 as their assistant defensive line coach and then became the secondary coach in 2008.

Before coming back to New Orleans, he was the Oakland Raiders head coach from 2012 until 2014, where he went 8-28 and was fired after Week 4 in 2014.

Allen was also the defensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos in 2011.
