Dustin Poirier is coming off a TKO win at UFC 264 over Conor McGregor and the stars are beginning to align for another great rivalry. Poirier previously had a fight scheduled against Nate Diaz at Madison Square Garden for UFC 230, but that fight never came to fruition due to an injury Poirier sustained.
Poirier went on to give a more detailed description of what actually happened with the fight negotiation, “He [Nate Diaz] wanted it, he just couldn’t come to terms with ufc. They offered us the main event at MSG but he would only agree if it was on his terms. I was tired of playing games with the guy and that’s when i decided to address a injury I had been dealing with. Now you all know #facts.”
Skip to present day and here we are with Nate Diaz essentially challenging Poirier to fight with the following tweet and Poirier responding to said tweet:
Fans are left questioning why Diaz would propose a fight at middleweight (185 bs) when his last fight was at welterweight (170 lbs). Diaz is not a natural middleweight or welterweight, having competed for most of his career as a lightweight (155lbs).
Diaz and now Poirier are pay-per-view draws, so another rivalry in the future looks promising. Poirier has three potential fights floating out in the universe, Charles Oliveira, Conor McGregor, and Nate Diaz.
