2022 is going to be a very remarkable year considering all the major sporting events taking place. Sports fans will barely find any time without anything to watch this year. They will undoubtedly mark their calendars to remember the most important events, mostly international competitions.
Fans of all sports will be on the edge of their seats due to the sheer volume of thrilling events awaiting them this year. From winter sports to tennis and more, there won’t be a dull moment.

Winter Olympics
Following the uncertainty surrounding the games due to the recent wave of the Covid-19 Omicron variant, it’s been announced that the Beijing Winter Olympics will officially begin on February 4. The games, which will begin with the traditional opening ceremony, will end on February 20. The Winter Olympics will pit top athletes from around the world against each other and give them a stage to showcase their talent. International spectators will be barred from attending and only a select few will be present.
Winter Paralympics
This year, Beijing will host the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in March (4-13). Around 600 of the world’s best Paralympic athletes will be competing. The opening and award ceremonies will be held at the Beijing National Stadium (Bird’s Nest). Wheelchair curling will take place at the National Aquatics Centre (Water Cube). The National Indoor Stadium will host the Para Ice Hockey event.
Super Bowl
California’s SoFi Stadium will be hosting Super Bowl LVI this year on the 13th of February. This is the first major event scheduled in this stadium which was opened back in 2020. The game will see the Los Angeles Rams face off against the Cincinnati Bengals. Be prepared for the hottest evening as the halftime show will feature 5 rap and R&B legends in Dr.Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige.
Indy 500
The Indy 500 will host its 106th race this year. It continues to thrill fans with an action-packed race in some of the world’s fastest cars. The event is considered one of motorsport’s Triple Crown events. Enjoy the legendary race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 29.
Formula One World Championship
Formula One is known as the pinnacle of motor racing. It is the most prestigious motorsport championship by the FIA. The Formula One calendar has been expanding in recent years, and will include a record 23 races this year. These will stretch from March 20 to November 20. A new race will be held in Miami this year. New technical rules and regulations are being introduced which organizers say will provide us with closer racing. And the drama of last season’s finale which handed Max Verstappen the World Drivers’ Championship after an exciting rivalry with Mercedes’ seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, all promise to give us an unforgettable year. Formula One is sure to provide motorsports fans with thrills this season.
UEFA Champions League Final
This is one of the most watched soccer events each year. The biggest European clubs have competed for this piece of silverware for over sixty-six years, with only 22 different teams ever tasting victory. This year’s event will be the 67th, and it’ll take place on the 28th of May. This will be the second Champions League final Russia has ever hosted, with the 2008 match between Chelsea and Manchester United having been held at the iconic Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
NBA Finals
The NBA finals are scheduled to take place between June 2nd and June 19th depending on how many games the series will include. Be prepared to witness a stunning best-of-seven series with the best players from the East and West coasts competing. The Nets, Warriors, Bucks, and Suns all seem to be among the favorites to come out victorious at the end of the season.
Tennis Majors
The most important tournaments in tennis that guarantee long crazy matches are known as “grand slam tournaments.” The men’s matches are played in a best-of-five format, and this gave us many amazing matches and even some breathtaking comebacks over the years. Also referred to as majors, they provide the most ranking points, public and media attention and prize money.
- Australian Open
The year’s first grand slam tournament began on Monday, January 17. It takes place in Melbourne, Australia, specifically in Rod Laver Arena. This year, the Australian Open, which started with controversy as Novak Djokovic was deported before the tournament kicked off, ended with Rafael Nadal being crowned champion and winning a record 21st Grand Slam championship. The women’s tournament ended with Ashleigh Barty winning on her home court.
- French Open
The French Open is the only clay court Major tournament, scheduled from May 22 to June 5. Night sessions were introduced to the tournament in 2021 in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Rafael Nadal has already won 13 French Opens, and coming off an earth-shattering 21st Grand Slam win in Melbourne, he’ll be considered the favorite to win again this year.
- Wimbledon
The oldest Grand Slam tournament, Wimbledon, will take place from June 27 to July 10 for the 135th time in 2022. Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in 2021, and it will be fascinating to see if they can defend their crowns.
- US Open
The electrifying atmosphere of a US Open night session on Arthur Ashe is almost unbeatable. Daniil Medvedev beat the favorite Novak Djokovic, denying him a calendar Grand Slam. The tournament this year promises to be as exciting as it has been over the past, with seven different champions being crowned in the past decade.
Summerslam 2022
WWE has released its schedule for 2022. The wrestling company will hold Summerslam in Nashville on July 30 at the Nissan Stadium, and it will be the first pay-per-view to take place in July. The 2022 schedule also sets a new record for WWE in terms of the number of stadium events (at least four) in a single year.
