One of the best moves the New York Yankees made at the trade deadline over the summer was the acquisition of Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs.
With Rizzo set to hit free agency, the Yankees appear ready to keep him in their current and future plans.
In 49 games for the Yankees, Rizzo hit .249 with eight home runs and 21 RBI while playing an outstanding first base. For the season, Rizzo hit .248 with 22 home runs and 61 RBI in 141 games between the Yankees and Cubs.
Rizzo hit a very big home run for the Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game against the Boston Red Sox that nearly started a rally in Fenway Park for the Bombers.
Rizzo reportedly turned down an extension to remain with the Cubs, as they were a team looking to rebuild going into 2021 and beyond.
Now that Rizzo got a chance to experience life as a Yankee and play in a pennant race in New York, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the two sides comes to an agreement for a return that seems to be extremely mutual.
