Coming into this season the expectations were low. There needed to be an improvement from year one under Head Coach Mel Tucker but at best a 7-5 or 6-6 team but he has MSU playing great football. Mel Tucker is becoming one of the best coaches on college football in front of our eyes with the job he has done so far.
Mel Tucker took over a program that was in dire need of an overhaul in 2020 and he has done just that. He used the transfer portal to reshape this team in just one offseason on the job by adding the biggest piece of the team in Kenneth Walker III who should be a finalist of the Heisman this season.
This Michigan State offense is something Spartans fans haven’t in quite a bit and it’s causing fans to be excited about the team once again. State’s offense is a nightmare for teams now as they beat you on the ground and through the air with QB Payton Thorne has thrown for over 1000 yards with 10+ TD’s already (stats are including the Western Kentucky game).
This team could end up being special as the BIG Ten is wide open right now and looks like Michigan State could be on the road to indy if they keep up this level of play. MSU still plays Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State but they control their destiny for the first time in years and that’s all they can ask for. There’s a good chance that both MSU and UM are undefeated when they meet in East Lansing on October 30th which could decide who make the BIG Ten title game and who has a shot for the college football playoff later this season.
Do you believe that Michigan State is the real deal? Is Mel Tucker one of the best coaches in college? Let us know!
